Biography of TOPAS

Topas is born on July 20 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Topas encounters the art of magic for the first time - by receiving a Ravensburger magic set. Soon it becomes clear, this bond will last for a lifetime.

At the age of eighteen only Topas performs for the Magic Circle of Stuttgart. He picks cards from thin air and cuts a rope in two, only to restore it a moment later.

Topas becomes the youngest member of the Magic Circle of Germany. In October he successfully performs at his first magic competition: At the magic convention in Brussels, Belgium, Topas wins first price in the junior category. Even though he is only fourteen years old he receives the highest score of the entire competition.

Annual convention of the Magic Circle in Hamburg: With his manipulation act with bells and sunglasses Topas becomes the new celebrated German champion of junior magic. In the same year he competes at the international championships in Krems, Austria and receives the Grand Prix - this time in the regular category! This award leads to a 10-day-engagement in the famous ‘Theater and der Wien’ in Vienna, Austria, where he successfully performs with internationally known stars (Paul Daniels, among others).

At the FISM World Championships of Magic, which is held only every three years, Topas wins second price in ‘manipulation’ - a first price is not awarded in this category.

First price at the German Championships of Magic in Wolfsburg and the highest score of the entire competition at the same time.

he city of Stuttgart hosts the German Variety Price ‘Young Variety’: Topas is awarded this price for the best and most innovative act. The press is raving about the young magic star and the act is shown on public television (SDR).

In spring time this same year Topas is booked for the ‘Grand Prix Magiques de Monte-Carlo’ in Monaco. He receives one of the most important awards in the field of variety, the ‘golden magic wand’, which is presented to Topas by princess Stephanie of Monaco in a prestigious ceremony. In July Topas enters the World Championship (Lausanne, Switzerland) one more time: He wins first price in ‘manipulation’ at the age of eighteen, thereby becoming the youngest prizewinner in the history of magic’s world championships. The experts are baffled by his new effects, his dexterity and the surprise appearance of an electrical guitar.

A US tour follows during which he performs at the world famous magic castle in Hollywood, California. Later this same year Topas is booked for his first full month engagement in the former Stuttgart Variety Theater on the Killesberg.

Seemingly effortless he ‘magishes’ his Abitur (German high school degree) at the Paracelsus-Gymnasium in Stuttgart-Plieningen. Aside from numerous live and TV performances in all the world another high point of Topas’ career is the debut performance of his original musical ‘Metropol’ in the ‘Theaterhaus Stuttgart’. The text was written by him, he plays the main part and directs the project. The musical tells the story of a young juggler who has his first engagement in the show and glitter world of variety. Naturally, there are lots of magical illusions performed in the musical along the way... This is when Topas first gets the idea to sing chansons and illustrate them with corresponding magic effects.

While Topas takes up his studies of German and English in Tübingen countless performances around the world follow.

Topas performs his act ‘bells and sunglasses’ on the American TV-show „World’s Greatest Magic“ (NBC) which is taped in Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas and broadcasted throughout the US and internationally.

Topas performs his act „Der Klopfgeist“ at a magic show on the stage of the world famous ‘Salzburger Festspiele’ in Austria. Thereby he is one of the few variety artists who can claim to have been booked in Salzburg as a singer...

Preparations for the full evening show „Magic and More“ are in full gear: new routines are created, new illusions are built.

Topas works as a magic consultant for the Constantin film „Der große Bagarozy“. Together with Bernd Eichinger, who wrote the screenplay and directed the movie, Topas created a special version of the classic illusion ‘the floating lady’ and coaches the main actor Til Schweiger to perform the illusion.

In the Stuttgart zoo „Wilhelma“ Topas makes a three-ton Indian elephant disappear for the German public TV station ARD.

„Magic Affairs“ the new full evening illusion show starts on a national tour and is performed successfully ever since.

Highlights of “Magic Affairs” go on a tour through India organized by the German “Goethe Institut”.

Numerous TV performances in Germany, France and Portugal plus constantly adding new acts to his repertoire sustain Topas as one of Germany’s most popular magicians.
